We started off the week in Tuxtla where we had a leadership council meeting with our mission president and the assistants. The zone leaders along with the sister training leaders from all the zones in the mission met together and we received inspired council for our zones. We were instructed on how to be better teachers and to teach with the spirit. It was a great meeting!

After the leadership council with president we were sent out to teach and apply what we had learned with our zones. We held our zone conference on Wednesday and instructed our missionaries on what our president had taught us. It went very well and was very successful! Wednesday night the branch here gave me a farewell party in the chapel. They set up tables and tied balloons to all of the chairs as we all sat and gathered around together. It was quite the turnout. Just about the entire branch came! We had a little dinner and the members thanked me for my love and service. I am so grateful for them, they are such great people!
On Sunday we were able to attend the tempe dedication of the Mexico Tijuana temple that was broadcasted in Tuxtla at our stake center. It was such a beautiful service! President Uctdorf spoke along with Gordon B. Hinkley's son who is the president of the Tijuana temple and his wife. The spirit was so strong! It was such a great experience and I am so grateful for the opportunity I had to be a part of it! We have been working so hard this week and I have been loving every minute of it! I think that one of my favorite days this week was the day that we taught 11 lessons! It was a great day and a record broken for the most lessons taught in one day:) Being a missionary is the best!
I love you all and hope you have a great week!

This week was awesome! I learned and grew a lot this week. We had our mission Christmas activity which was very beautiful. We had a talent show in the morning that everyone participated in. My district put on a skit demonstrating the day in the life of a missionary on Christmas day. My part in the skit was the missionaries exercise routine in the morning. We acted out as if I was teaching them zumba and they attempted to follow me. I did a lot of gymnastics and some stretches and they followed after me...it was hilarious! Afterwords the elders in our zone did a dance that hermana Martinez and I choreographed. Wow, I have not laughed so hard in a long time...it was so funny! After the talent show we had our combined zone conference which was my favorite part of it all! As the assistants counseled us on Christ-like attributes and what we can give to Christ this Christmas I felt the spirit so strong! They also talked about the gift that our Savior has given us and passed around a wrapped box for us to open and look at and ponder at what it is that he has given us. As we each opened up the box we found a mirror inside and saw our reflection looking back at us. The gift that he gave us is our life. They asked us to ponder on the following questions: How long did the Lord spend in making me? As a creation made from the hands of a perfect being how much is my value? What can I become in this life? While I reflected on these questions I felt the spirit so strongly in knowing how much meaning being a child of God holds and how infinite and limitless my potential truly is. That I have the potential to become as the perfect being who created me.
This gospel is truly a message of so much happiness! When one comes to the understanding of where they came from, what their purpose in this life is and where they can go after death a new light of hope enters into their life. Similarly, the message of Christmas is a joyful one. That a Savior was born 2015 years ago and he lived and he died. But he lives again! I invite each one of you to think of what you would like to give him this Christmas, it can be a changed heart or service to your fellow men, it doesn't matter what the gift is. But when it comes from the heart as did the treasures from the wise man, it is the best that we have to give! I love you guys and I hope you have the best week yet! Give him your gift and see the joy that comes from it!
We were with a big group of people at the time so I couldn't scream and jump up and down so I just stood still in silence while tears filled my eyes. As I leaned over and told my companion what had happened she looked at me and said, "Oh no" and wrapped her arms around me and hugged me tightly because she knew how much pain I was in. The group of people we were with also noticed what was going on and let me sit in their car and put my foot up and they gave me a paper towel to soak up all the blood coming out of my toe. As the taxi dropped us off at the house we got out to walk inside. As we were in a trio for the companion exchanges we were doing at the time with my companion and I along with a sister in our zone I had two people to help me hobble into the house. My companion let me use her foot to step on top of in order for my bare foot not to touch the ground and hermana Lopez, the sister we were with put her arm around my waist and let me use her to lean on. As soon as we walked through the door one of them ran to get me a chair to sit on and another to put my foot up while the other filled a bucket of water up to heat so I could soak my foot. A bit later in the week I was able to be operated on. As my companon is a certified doctor she was able to help the doctor who did the operation. Another missionary who had recently had surgery and was recovering in the mission home let me squeeze her hands while they put shots in my feet and worked on them.

I have felt so much love and support this week from so many people. I am grateful for the kind hands of all those who cared for me. My mission president and his wife were also so good to us to care for us and let us stay in the mission home while I was recovering and took us out to eat. I have felt so loved this week!

I am also able to start walking a little bit this week so we are very excited about that. Yay! Missionary work is the best :) I love you guys, have a great week!

Love Hermana Paini

This week was awesome! I love being a missionary:)

We have been seeing a lot of miracles lately. It is so amazing to me to see all of the different ways that the Lord places those whom he has prepared to hear the gospel. Every day is truly inspired! There are days when every plan and appointment we have falls through and we find someone prepared and waiting to hear the gospel in the street. It is amazing how the Lord works!

We have also had several great opportunities lately to help the sisters in our zone. It was one of the most rewarding things when after a companion exchange the sister I did the exchange with hugged me and with tears streaming down her face and told me thank you and that she loved me. It is a great opportunity to be a sister training leader because we get to help not only the investigators but our missionaries as well.

This transfer we are focusing on the promise our president gave us that we would be able to find 2 families to baptize this transfer so we are excited and working hard to find them.

I think that's about everything new this week. I love you guys, have a great week!
This week was great, I feel like I say that every week but it is always true! It was hard to say goodbye to Hermana Briscoe but comforting in the fact that I know I will see her again. We plan to be roomates together in BYU and have several fun plans that I am looking forward to!

My new companion is Hermana Martinez. She is 24 years old and has already graduated from college with her nursing degree. She has 14 months in the mission and is awesome! We are working great and so hard together!

This week the Lord has been teaching me more about the power of the Spirit in teaching the scripture in D&C 42:14 comes to my mind that "if ye receive not the spirit ye shall not teach." It is very true! We can talk for hours on end using our personal knowledge along with the scriptures but if we do not have the spirit we are not teaching. It is by the spirit only that our words enter in the hearts and minds of those with whom we are speaking and the spirit which testifies of the truthfullness of our words.

Love, Hermana Paini
This week was great! Though we weren't able to work in our area very much for meetings we had in Tuxtla, we were able to witness several miracles and serve the Lord.

This week was so full of learning experiences for me and I loved it. We had the privelege of attending leadership mission council as leaders in our zone and were able to learn from other leaders in the mission as well as our mission president. It was very inspiring! We were also able to train the missionaries in our zone in another meeting we had and it was a great experience. I can always know that the spirit is present when I feel like I am the one learning while I am teaching.

I have come to a greater understanding this week of how important the spirit truly is in this marvelous work! There have been so many times where the words given to me only by the spirit. I am learning to trust in the Lord more and more each day and trust in his hands to help us do His work.

I love each day here in the mission, the hard ones as well as those that bring peace. I am learning to enjoy every moment here and I want to make the most of every minute of every day that I have left!
She has finished the mission and is returning home. Though I will miss her very much I know I will see her again soon which brings peace. After the mission we are both going to go to BYU and have lots of plans to keep us busy:). My new companion is Hermana Marinez and I will get to meet her tomorrow. I know I will love her and I am excited to work hard together this transfer!

I love you all and I hope you have a great week! Choose to make it great and it will be!

This week was awesome! We had an activity called, Meet the Mormons on Friday. Each Friday we have family night in the chapel with the branch. This time we watched, "Meet the Mormons," for our family night. We made flyers and passed them out to everyone we talked with. The members also talked with their friends about the activity and invited them to come and meet the mormons. It was a great turnout and we received several great references of people who would like to learn more and made appointments to visit them. We also met a great hermana named Alejandra who was a miracle one night this week in our last lesson before returning home. We had contacted Alejandra's mom in the street a few days before. When we arrived to teach Alejandra's mom she had to go to her work so she couldn't receive us so she left us with her daughter, Alejandra. As we talked with Alejandra we explained why we are here and what our purpose is as missionaries. We explained that we are here to help others come unto Christ and prepare them for baptism. We asked her if she would like to prepare to be baptized and she smiled at us and said, "yes!" When we invited her to be baptized the 28th of November she happily accepted the goal and as we taught her how to pray when we finished the lesson she prayed and asked to be able to be baptized in her prayer. We are so excited for her!

To finish off he week we had quite the funny experience yesterday after church. We had been fasting so before eating we asked the hermana who ate with us if she could let us use a room to pray. The hermana is an older sister so I don't know that she understood us very well. She led us to the kitchen and explained that they say prayers in the kitchen so we could pray there if we would like. We asked her if there wasn't a room a bit more private we could use. She led us to a little space in front of the bathroom where they keep their dirty clothes. We decided it would have to work and thanked the sister for her help. However, she must not have understood that it was something we wanted to do in private because she stood there looking at us and didn't leave. My companion knelt down thinking she would get the hint and I held the curtain door open for her so she could leave but she just stayed there and said, "I can't kneel down with my bad knees" and folded her arms and bowed her head. "Oh well," my companion and I thought as I knelt down and said the prayer to break our fast praying for our investigators and for their specific needs. The hermana accompanied us with her arms folded the entire prayer. After we finished she said, "It was a prayer about something to do with fasting right?" She is a member so she knows what fasting is but I don't think she really understood what was going on. Either way, it was pretty funny.

It was an awesome week and we are working hard and happier than ever! Have a great week!

Love, hermana Paini
I feel like it was just Monday yesterday!

I am really loving my new area. This is the first area I have been in that is a branch instead of a ward. It is a bit small but we have lots of re-activation and conversion to do and are ready to help the branch grow and progress to soon become a ward.

Something I have noticed and loved in all of my areas up until this point is that there is always at least 1 member family that is so good to us and becomes like our own family in the area. In every throughout my mission that has been the case and I am so grateful for that. It is amazing for me as I experience how one can grow to love such complete strangers in such a short time. I have come to do so in every area with the members, investigators and companions with whom I have associated with and it has made such a special impact on my life and on the person who I have become and am today. I am so grateful for the power of each of these wonderful influences in my life! We have been working harder than ever this past week helping 3 couples in particular to get married and be baptized. Ada and Alexis as well as Sergio and Tania are two couples who are so close to being baptized and just need to overcome the obstacles that are put in their way of getting married. We are working with them and fasting and praying for them constantly so that they will be able to do so. We are also teaching an investigator who is the mother of a missionary in our branch who just recently left on his mission about a month ago. Her name is Rosio. She has such a strong testimony and knows that the gospel is true, all that she needs now is to get married with the person she is with and she can be baptized. We have seen so many miracles lately, great and small, and continue praying to see more each day especially with these investigators who we love so much. I trust in my Heavenly Father and know he loves them even more than us and have no doubt that he is working with them through us as well. With his help there is nothing in this world that is impossible!

I love you guys. Have a great week!
This week was great! I am really loving it here in my new area and I love my companion, hermana Briscoe, very much as well.

It is very calm here, not much happens... which is a good thing. However, the house is always full of adventure. The toilet is currently not working so we have to fill buckets of water up in order to flush the toilet. The shower works great, however the drain doesn't work so all the water fills up the bathroom and quickly floods the entire bedroom if we are not careful. After showering we have to mop up all the water and put it in the sink so the other companion can shower without flooding the house. There is also no hot water so so we boil water and pour it in buckets and that is what I use to shower with. It is always a good time:).

This week was full of miracles! There are so many we are teaching who are progressing very well and will soon be able to be baptized. We have also been praying lately to be able to find a family of 4 who have already been to church at least 2 times and can prepare to be baptized. Our prayer was answered when we boarded a bus to go to Tuxtla for our interviews on Saturday and we met a brother named Carlos. While talking with him we found out that he is a member who was baptized about 3and a half years ago and then became inactive. However, his wife and 3 kids above the age of 8 are not members and have been to church several times. Carlos went to church yesterday for the first time in years and we were able to make an appointment with him and contact his family with a group of members after church yesterday. They are so great and we are very excited for them!

That's all I have time for this week, but I love you all very much and hope you have a great week!:)
I love it here in Cintalapa and love my companion very much as well. SHE IS AMERICAN.. that is so weird for me.. I think I went into a brief culture shock for the first few days as companions because I have gotten so used to having latin companions for such a long time. But she is great and I love her! She is from Idaho and has 17 months in the mission and will finish this transfer. I will finish only one transfer after her. But we are making the most of the time we have left and working like crazy. We are sister training leaders which is fun and get to help more people which is really awesome. Though we are both americans we only talk in Spanish.. all day everyday, we have forgotten a lot of our engish and it is just easier to speak spanish all the time.

This week was great! I had quite the surprise this week when I got proposed to... I found out this week that one of the people from the mountain group fell in love with me. I don't know how because I have only talked to him once. Anyways, he recorded a video for me telling me that he was in love with me and that he wanted to marry me. He told me several things saying that he loved me and wanted me to be his wife and that he was willing to wait for my answer. I saw his video and then yesterday on Sunday he confronted me in church and asked me what my answer was. I think it was one of the most uncomfortable moments of my life, because I am a missionary! We told him no and that as missionaries we are not here for that and we can't even talk or think about that right now. He seemed to be pretty sad but I think he will be o.k.
We had a great zone meeting with our mission president this week and went to the temple with our zone afterwards. It was an amazing experience. I love the temple so much and I am very grateful for every experience I have to go as a missionary!

The news this week is that we have transfers. I am being transferred to a new area. I don't know anything about it but I'm sure it's a great area. I will miss Chiapa de Corzo and my companion very much but I'm excited to see what the Lord has in store for me. I love you all and I hope you have a great week!

Sadie had to fill out some essays and send them to me for colleges she is applying to in January. I was so impressed with what she wrote in one of the essays I wanted to put it on her blog. The question was, "What is one of the most difficult things you have ever done or experienced?" This was Sadie's answer. "<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;">One of the most difficult yet rewarding things I have ever done has been leaving my family, home, work, and schooling behind for 18 months of dedicated service to the Lord. Serving in the Tuxtla Gutierrez Mexico mission has given me the chance to experiment and learn from opposition. Various physical trials such as typhoid fever, salmonella poisoning, several bacterial infections, and an epidemic called Chikungunya have tried me more than I ever thought I was capable of withstanding. However, in the midst of my tirals I have been able to learn one of the greatest lessons I have ever been taught which is to put my complete trust in the will of the Lord. My experiences have served as life long lessons that I will forever treasure. One of the most valuable things I have learned is how to put my temporal needs and emotions such as hunger, tiredness and pain behind in order to dedicate all of my heart might and mind to serving others. I have learned that I can truly make a differnence in others lives. I have learned how to lead as well as to follow. I have learned to love perfect strangers and care for their progression. By changing the lives of those around me I have in turn changed my life as well. I know that I can be a force for good as I act instead of being acted upon. I now know that I can make a difference!"

I never even knew Sadie had chikungunya. She never mentioned it in her letters. Apparently it was a disease that caused lots of pain and a high fever. I wonder what else she has never told us?

We all dressed in red, white and green, Mexico's national colors and the hermanas from the relief society did a traditional dance, the quorum of elders sang and the primary put on a little program. It was a great turnout and several investigators showed up and seemed to really enjoy it.

We had another activity this week as a zone. The activity was a chapel open house for a chapel in Tuxtla that was newly re-opened after being under construction. It was also a great turnout. Several investigators showed up and all of us full time missionaries put on a program of the plan of salvation and then separated into classes for a question and answer session. It was a really neat experience to hear their questions and be able to answer them bringing them hope and happiness that we have of the knowledge that families can be together for eternity and that we will be able to see those we love again after death.

I have been studying a lot this week about self-mastery, how we can have control over ourselves and put off the natural man. It is a great study topic and I have learned so much. We currently have an investigator named Bartolo who makes us study harder to give more in depth classes. He has read the entire book of mormon, Jesus the Christ, and the Miracle of Forgiveness. It is always great to talk to him and learn from him as well in our lessons.

It was a great week and I'm grateful for the chance I had to live it. I'm happy to be alive, happy to be a missionary and happy to have this gospel in my life!

I love you guys and I hope you have a great week!

This week was awesome! I lost my voice for the first time ever due to a cold and couldn't talk for 3 days. Teaching lessons and planning was fun... my companion had to listen closely as I whispered my ideas in planning session. We were both very grateful when my voice finally came back:)

Yesterday we had the great opportunity of going to the re-dedication of the Mexico City, Mexico temple. It was such a beautiful experience! It was also fun to see Henry B. Eyring and Jeffrey R. Holland speak a little bit of Spanish:)

We also had a really great lesson this week with a family that are less actives. We taught them about how the Book of Mormon can answer questions of our souls. We used an example by letting them choose a question they had and we showed them the answers to their question by reading a chapter in the Book of Mormon. Their question was, "Why does God allow so much suffering and wickedness?" We read about it in 2 Nephi 2. It was a powerful lesson that the spirit taught each one of us as we read. After seeing how the chapter answered their questions they had a sincere burning desire to study the Book of Mormon. It is very true what it says in Preach my Gospel that the Book of Mormon combined with the spirit is the best tool that can be used for true conversion. I love the Book of Mormon and am so grateful for all the sacrifices that so many made in order for us to have it. Through daily study it is truly a book that changes people and changes lives.

I hope you all have a great week.... and don't forget to read your Book of Mormon. You can't imagine how many answers inside those pages are waiting for you!

We did an activity this week called "Al Rescate," which in English I think would translate to "The Rescue." It was an activity that we did with the 6 of us sister missionaries in the zone in the area of the sisters in our district are opening an area. The idea of the activity is that we can contact and find more people for them to teach. We all met together in the park that is in their area and one of the sisters, Hermana Cook, played her violin while we sang church hymns. Several people gathered around to listen to us and after each song we were able to contact them and take down their names and addresses so that the sisters would visit them. It was a great activity and turned out to be quite the success!

This week we also had the wonderful opportunity of getting to know a new investigator named Maria Esperanza. She is an older lady who has had a very hard life. She grew up as an orphan since her parents abandoned her at a young age. She had 11 children but only 8 of them survived. Two of her children still live with her. They are beautiful, disable adults at the ages of 35 and 27. They cannot talk but understand well and are very attentive in the lessons we teach. On Saturday Maria Esperanza was very sick when we went to teach her. We sang her a hymn and said a prayer for her and then they took her to the hospital. She has a tumor so they gave her some medicine for the pain and sent her back home. Yesterday morning when we went to check on her to see how she was doing, she seemed to be feeling a little better. She was laying in her bed in her church clothes and told us that she wanted more than anything to go to church but that she couldn't walk because of the pain in her leg. So we called a taxi to come pick us up and take her to church and her wish was granted. Her two children that live with her were also able to accompany us and they all seemed to really enjoy it. After church she told us she was so grateful for the opportunity she had to attend and said that she hoped she would be feeling better next week to be able to walk to church. She is such a great example and I have learned so much from her!

I hope you all have a great week! I love you guys.
The members here have been working so great with us this past week. They have been giving us several references of people that they know and love and accompany us to the appointments with them. It has been awesome! There is such a difference between a lesson with a member present than a lesson without. There is a part in Preach my Gospel that says, "The ideal solution is when members invite others to be taught and our present for the teaching. When members do this, more people are baptized and remain active in the church. It is very true, there is a higher level of success in the work when we work with the members!

We also have been focussing a lot on re-activating less actives lately. There is a story that we have used to motivate us and the members to work on a re-activation and never give up. The story talks about an inactive young man who used to surf. He would pend his time on Sundays surfing instead of going to church. However, the ward assigned a member to reactivate him and bring him back to church. Here is the story......

As a member of the branch presidency in Fortaleza, Brazil, Brother Marques with the other

priesthood leaders developed a plan to reactivate those who were less active in his branch. One of those who was less active was a young man by the name of Fernando Araujo.

Recently I spoke to Fernando, and he told me of his experience:
“I became involved in surfing competitions on Sunday mornings and stopped going to my

Church meetings. One Sunday morning Brother Marques knocked on my door and asked

my nonmember mother if he could talk to me. When she told him I was sleeping, he asked

permission to wake me. He said to me,‘Fernando, you are late for church!’ Not listening to

my excuses, he took me to church.
“The next Sunday the same thing happened, so on the third Sunday I decided to leave early to avoid him. As I opened the gate I found him sitting in his car, reading the scriptures.

When he saw me he said, ‘Good! You are up early.Today we will go and find another young man!’ I appealed to my agency, but he said, ‘We can talk about that later.’
“After eight Sundays I could not get rid of him, so I decided to sleep at a friend’s house.

I was at the beach the next morning when I saw a man dressed in a suit and tie walking

towards me. When I saw that it was Brother Marques, I ran into the water. All of a sudden, I felt someone’s hand on my shoulder. It was Brother Marques, in water up to his chest! He

took me by the hand and said, ‘You are late! Let’s go.’ When I argued that I didn’t have any clothes to wear, he replied, ‘They are in the car.’
“That day as we walked out of the ocean, I was touched by Brother Marques’s sincere love and worry for me. He truly understood the Savior’s words: ‘I will seek that which was lost,

and bring again that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken, and

will strengthen that which was sick’ (Ezek.34:16). Brother Marques didn’t just give me a ride to church the quorum made sure I remained active. They planned activities that made me

feel needed and wanted, I received a calling, and the quorum members became my

friends.”
Following his reactivation, Brother Araujo went on a full time mission and has served as

bishop, stake president, mission president, and regional representative. His widowed

mother, three sisters, and several cousins have also entered the waters of baptism.

We have seen so many miracles and have found several people who have heard the missionaries and are ready to be baptized this week or the next!
This week we began teaching Hermana Flor's mother-in-law, Adela. It is a beautiful story to how we came to know and started teaching her. There is a promise in Preach My Gospel that says that if we can teach by the spirit those we are teaching will feel a burning desire to share the gospel with others. After we finished teaching a lesson to Hermana Flor and her boyfriend, her boyfriend told us he felt a sense of overwhelming joy come into his heart and said he would like us to visit his mom. We went to her house and he began teaching his mom the same lesson that we had just finished teaching him. He began to cry and told his mother that he wanted to change and that he knew this gospel was the way that he would become a better man. After the lesson with his mom he also told us about several friends that he has who he has talked to that would like to listen to us. There is nothing that makes us more happy... the more work the better!:)

Yesterday we had our ward mission program in sacrament meeting. As missionaries, ward missionaries and our ward mission leader we spoke about the work of salvation. It was great! All in all it was a great week in the Lord's vineyard. I love being a missionary!

Love, Hermana Paini
On Thursday we had our semi-annual mission activity. It was a lot of fun! We went and hiked down 720 stairs to some giant waterfalls. We played volleyball on the side of the river, took pictures and had lots of fun! After the trip back up the stair path we were all pretty exhausted, but it was all worth it. My companion and I did a comparison of what seemed to be the never ending path of stairs with the gospel principle endure to the end. It was a beautiful and very rewarding experience!

Saturday was a long awaited for day! After 3-4 months of waiting for this day Hermana Flor's baptism day finally happened! It was such a beautiful day! Hermana Monjaras and I sang in her baptismal service and it was an experience I will never forget. We sang, "If the Savior Stood Beside Me," singing half of it in English and the other half in Spanish. As we were singing I looked up at Hermana Flor as her eyes filled with tears. She smiled at me as tears ran down her face. As we proceeded to her baptismal service I asked her how she felt and she said she was so happy and that this was a day she had dreamt about and waited for for so long. She looked like an angel in her white dress and was glowing all around. After she was baptized she bore her testimony to end the service. She has such a strong, powerful testimony, you can see it in her eyes and hear it in her voice that she really knows without any doubt that this church is true. She is such a great example to me and I have learned so much from her!
<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 12.8000001907349px;">We moved to a new house this week and it is great! We live in the same privada apartments as a great family that are members. The best part is that the wáter doesn`t have a color.. it is clear! It doesn`t have a smell either which is also a good sign. I took a shower this week and felt like it was the first time I was actually CLEAN in 3 transfers. It was a great experience :)

My companion got food poisoning so it was back to the hospital this week. The good news is that it is starting to feel more like home every time. I now know where everything is and the names of each of the doctors and nurses. :)

Our ward mission leader and his wife went out to eat with a couple who are ward missionaries and their son, Daniel. After eating they brought a couple of plates of food home for us so we could it it for dinner. However, it was shrimp that they gave us, which is something I have never been too fond of. My companion however, LOVES it so I let her eat it all. The next day when we went to correlation with the couple who are ward missionaries and our ward mission leader everyone was sick! They all said they felt horrible. Later that night my companion started feeling sick as well. We went back to the house and she progressively got worse! She was non stop throwing up and spending all of her time in the bathroom. We took her to the hospital clinic and they hospitalized her overnight hooking her up to an IV and injecting antibiotics. After about 24 hours she felt much better so we were able to go back home.

The more time I spend in the mission the more I think about how the mission prepares us to be parents. I am learning how to love and care for someone else, clean up someone else's throw up, and being able to put emotions of being tired and hungry away in order to dedicate all of my time to helping someone else. It's a beautiful thing all that can be learned in the mission!

This week was so great and I wouldn't trade it for the world! We saw so many miracles and were able to witness on a greater level the Lord's hand in our lives.

I love you all and hope you have a wonderful week!
This week was anther week full of miracles. My companion got sick this week so we had to stay in the clinic for a couple days but I climbed up in her hospital bed with her and we talked and had a good time. She is doing much better now. The trip to the clinic made us realize how grateful we were when we were able to go home again and sleep in our BEDS. It´s true that you don´t realize what you have until you don´t have it anymore. So that was a good reminder that helped us be more grateful :)

After what seemed like every trial possible, Luisa and Jesus were finally baptized! It's a beautiful story how it all happened!

Luisa and Jesus have been listening to the missionaries for over a year now. They have had the desire to be baptized since the missionaries first visit but have had problem after problem in doing so. The problem has been that they were not married and it was a very long and complicated process in order for them to do so. But we have lots of faith and have never given up on them.

One Monday night exactly 2 weeks ago we decided we would do a family home evening with hermana Luisa and Jesus. We invited our ward mission leader along with his wife and a couple who are ward missionaries. During the family home evening we shared a message about the Family, a Proclamation to the World. We also did an activity comparing Alma 50 with the family and what we can do in order to protect it. Afterward we asked for the members who accompanied us to share their testimonies. As they did so we felt the spirit so strong and it was at that point that we challenged them to be baptized. We told them we knew there were several obstacles and were aware that it would not be easy, however, with a lot of faith and the Lord on our side it would be possible. They accepted the invitation to be baptized so we were going to make a goal with them of a date that they would be married. They were doubtful and didn't think it would be possible money wise. They had all their money saved up about 2 weeks before but their entire family suddenly became very sick and had to be hospitalized. All their money saved up to get married was to used to pay hospital and other medical bills. They were left without any money and went into debt. We were very aware of their situation but told them to just put their trust that the Lord would provide the way and it would be possible. So they did so and chose the 23rd of July (a week and a half) to prepare and to be baptized.
We talked to the members to help us save up and donate money towards their wedding. The day arrived when they had to pay for their marriage and we still didn't have enough money saved up. My companion and I got down on our knees and prayed for a miracle and asked specifically that they could have the money sufficient in order to pay to get married. About an hour later we received a call from one of our ward missionaries telling us that they had all the money needed and were able to pay for their marriage. They wee then married Thursday at noon and baptized that same day at 5:00 p.m.

It was such a beautiful service and 58 people arrived to support them! I am so grateful for these miracles I am able to witness here in the mission field. With the help of the members and the Lord on our side there is literally nothing that is impossible. I love this work and I love this gospel, it is a blessing in my life and the lives of so many others with whom we share it with!

I love you all, have a great week!

This week was great! I love being a missionary:) These experiences we get to live are unlike any other. We had quite the surprise this week, as we became on the wards lost and found list...

So last Friday we came back to the house as usual at 9:00 p.m. and planned until 9:30. After planning our district leader always calls us at 9:30 to check up on us and talk about our day. So we sat by the phone and waited for him to call. 15 minutes went by and he hadn't called so we talked and made dinner as we kept waiting for him to call. 10:00 came around and he still hadn't called. "Maybe he forgot us?" we said. But since that had never happened before we both knew it was very unlikely! As 10:30 came around it was time for bed so we laid down in bed and I checked the phone one last time to make sure we didn't have any missed phone calls. As the phone lit up I noticed something...we didn't have any service! "Oh no," I told my companion, "that explains why he hasn't called us, we don't have any service. He's probably pretty worried about us." Since there wasn't anything we could do we decided we would go to sleep and see if we had service to call him in the morning. We were fast asleep when 12:00 came around and I heard strange noises from outside. As I opened my eyes and woke up a little bit I realized someone was tapping on the window and calling "Hermanas, missionaries!" I got out of bed and walked over to the window to see what was going on. We live in a 2 story house and we sleep up stairs so I opened up the curtains to look down on the ground and see who was knocking on the front door downstairs. To my surprise I heard the voice again calling for us and realized it was right next to my ear. I turned my head to see a young man in the window looking at me. I jumped and gasped waking up my companion who also screamed out of surprise. "Hey, we're here with the bishop," he said. I looked down to see a group of 6 or 7 people gather around until sure enough I saw the bishop standing there. "Come down" he yelled to us. So we both got up and stumbled down the stairs. "What is going on?" My companion asked me. "I have no idea," I told her. We opened up the door as the group of people sighed in relief. "Thank goodness you're o.k." They said. As I looked at them closer I realized they were all members, the bishop, his counselors and their wives with a few others. "What's going on?" I asked. "Your leader is very worried about you two," they said. He has been calling you since 9:30 and says your phone goes straight to voicemail, we've all tried calling and it does the same." "Oh," I said, "That's because we don't have any service." They all looked down at their cell phones and they didn't have any service either. "Your leader is very worried," they said. "He's called the assistants, the mission president and both the bishops from our ward and the other ward. He called us and sent us here to see if you are o.k.' "Yeah we're doing great" I told them. "We've been in the house fast asleep the whole time." They all laughed. "But why did you have to have Adam climb up the house to tap on our window?" I asked. "You almost gave us a heart attack!" "We spent 10 minutes knocking on the front door and yelling for you but you never heard us," they told us, "And we had to make sure you were there to see if you were o.k." We both laughed. "It was a long day of work and we were so deep asleep we didn't hear anything." After laughing about it we decided we should call our District leader and tell him everything was o.k. So we walked out to the corner in our pajamas until we had service to call him. He was so relieved to hear our voices and know we were o.k. that I thought he was going to cry. We explained everything that had happened and that we were o.k. and just didn't have service. We then said goodbye to all the members and thanked them all for worrying and checking up on us and went back to bed at what felt like 3 a.m. missionary time! It was quite the event.
This week was awesome:) My new companion is great. I already love her so much and feel like we have been companions forever though we actually have less than a week together. Her name is hermana Monjaras and she is from El Salvador, which is in central America. It is funny because we are both extranjeros. (I didn't know what that word would be in English) but we are both from different countries outside of Mexico so there are several Mexican words we don't understand and just look at each other with a blank look on our faces. It is great!:)

The work is progressing so well here in Chiapa de Corzo. We were able to see several miracles in th work here that I am very grateful for.

The mountain group of Seyalo continues to be such a great blessing in my life. Hermana Flor's husband has work again and is saving up so that they can get married so that is GREAT NEWS! When we went to Soyalo yesterday I got to talk to hermana Flor about their progress as a family and how they were doing. She looked at me as a big smile came across her face and said, "Very well hermana." Tears filled her eyes as she looked at me and said "We have started praying together as a family each morning and night and it has made all the difference." I was so happy for her and so grateful for my Heavenly Father and the hand that he has in their lives. When I look at this family I don't imagine them how they are. I imagine them all dressed in white as an eternal family. I know that's what they can become and is not only mine but the Lord's desire for them.

I love this work and I love these people. Their progress makes me happier than any other thing in this world. I sure love you guys. Have a great week!
Hola Hola!

This week was great! This morning we received transfers, my companion will be going to cacahoatan, my first area. Yay! She will love it there. Though I will miss her a lot I am comforted by the fact that she will be going to the very best area that there is :)

The mountain group are progressing so well! They officially bought a house of prayer to start holding their Sunday services in. We are going to go and see it this Sunday when we accompany them for Sacrament meeting. Hermana Flor's husband who is an alcoholic that we have been working with went to sacrament meeting for the first time yesterday in Soyalo. We are so proud of him and his progress. It is an answer to several constant prayers. Hermano Jesus Santiago continues to progress so great as well! He teaches us more than we teach him every time we go to his house. He takes his pamphlets and Book of Mormon to work with him to read whenever he gets time. At home he watches mormon messages and church movies and reads different talks on LDS.org He's practically a member...I see him as a future teacher of Gospel Principles :) We are now just hoping and praying for his boss to give him Sundays off of work so that he can come to church.

The work is coming along so great here, but the time is flying by so fast! I can't believe the 4th of July already happened. I completely forgot all about it but looking at my calendar it says that day has passed.

Well I sure love you guys and I'm so grateful for all that you do for me. I pray for you every night and know that the Lord hears my prayers and is taking care of you all.:) Have a great week o.k!

Hermana Peine
We have been working so hard and are seeing the miracles that come from it! The mountain group are progressing so well. There are two sisters that are so close to being baptized they are just waiting for the money in order to get married. We are hoping either this week or the next they will be able to be baptized.

We had our ward family home evening on Saturday that turned out to be quite the success! Two speakers came and talked to us about the family and the importance it has and how to strengthen it. It is such a great lesson and I personally learned so much. There are 3 phrases I learned that I really liked: "Those who don't show their love don't love." "If the parents are o.k. their kids will be also." "Happiness is not a condition, it is a decision." Well these were my translations to English... I don't know if they made sense or not, but I really liked them. They are very true!

The work is progressing very well here. We have several great investigators that are future members. I can see it in their eyes.:) One of our investigators in particular is named Jesus Santiago. He is the best investigator I have ever known! When we first started teaching him he said that he had been trying to talk to God and make a change in his life but he didn't know how. He said he was always trying to talk to God but never felt like his message was getting through to him. After we taught him how to pray he said that he felt such a difference. "I now know that I am talking to God and feel that he is listening to me," he said. He has come to love the Book of Mormon as well. In his own words he says, "I love this book and I just know that it's true." He is currently looking for another job so that he won't have to work on Sundays and can go to church. He also says that he will be baptized, he has the desire and the goal to do so and he is going to complete it.

I am so grateful for the opportunity I have to get to know such wonderful people. Sometimes I wonder if I am the one who is actually doing the teaching of the one being taught. I learn so much everyday from all those that I am surrounded by. They are life lessons that I will forever be thankful for!

I love you guys. Have a great week:) Love, Hermana Paini
